The Department of Psychiatric Nursing was opened at this hospital on 16-2-2005 when a clinical tutor was appointed to this hospital. The department was recognised as teaching department affiliated to Ranchi University from. 2006. The department has 6 seats in Deiploma in Psychiatric Nursing approved by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi from the academic session 2006-2007.

The faculty is involved in teaching, research, rural community programme. This department is equipped with computer, teaching aids, psychological rating scales and nursing manuals. Faculty members and students are actively involved in teaching, nursing assessment, nursing management  and research. Students are actively involved in Community Outreach Programmes. Faculty members of the Deptt. are also called from time to time as visiting/guest faculty.
