Clinical Psychology
The Department of Clinical Psychology was opened at this hospital on 14th September 1966 when a psychologist was appointed to this hospital. The department was recognised as teaching department affiliated to Ranchi University w.e.f. 01-4-1998. The department has 6 seats in M.Phil and two in Ph.D courses in Clinical Psychology at present.

The faculty is involved in clinical, teaching, research, rural community programme and urban school mental health programmes. This department is equipped with modern neuropsychological test materials and biofeed back machines. Besides carrying out psycho-diagnostic & psychotherapeutic programmes, the faculty members also actively participate in group therapy and research activities. The Deptt has different units for Out-patient and In-patients. Out patients units consists of psycho-diagnostic unit and psycho-therapeutic unit. In-patient units are psycho-diagnostic, neuropsychology, drug de-addiction, behaviour therapy and other psychotherapy procedures. Faculty members and students are actively involved in psychological assessment and psychological management of patients. Work-up of patients at O.P.D. is done regularly by Clinical Psychology students under supervision of faculty members. Students are actively involved in Community Outreach Programmes. Faculty members of the Deptt. are also called from time to time as visiting/guest faculty, subject expert and external examiners in different Institutions/Organization/University. The official journal of Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists and Journal of Projective Psychology & Mental Health are being published by the Deptt. The faculty members are in the editorial board of various Journals and are University examiners. Senior Faculty member is also nominated as RCI Inspector, New Delhi. Yoga and Meditation Centre
The Institute has started Yoga and Meditation sessions for both Male and Female Indoor patients by qualified professional in Yoga. During January 2006 to March 2007 a total of 614 male indoor patients attended the sessions. Average session attended by one patient was seven. Generally the patients are trained in breathing exercises, relaxation and different types of asanas. Besides this 32 patients referred from OPD were also attended in Yoga Unit. In August 2006 five PG students (Applied Psychology) of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, were also trained for 10 days in Yoga.
Note: The seat for M.Phil in Medical and Social Psychology has been increased from 6 to 12 and for Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from 2 to 4 w.e.f the session 2010.
